Grasp the housing of the sprinkler head and turn it counterclockwise. The head may unscrew from the riser, or the riser may unscrew from the line fitting, and either is OK. If the riser remains screwed to the fitting and the damaged sprinkler head was at the right height, you can simply screw the replacement head onto it.
